High Quality Made Tyre...But

4

Having to change over from the ordinary Vittoria stock standard tyres from my road bike; I first switched over to the Continental GP Attack/Force Twin pack and have been amazed by the performance and reliability. However, I've suffered quite a lot of punctures lately and it has been getting quite annoying. The tyres are still fantastic, but I needed something more resistant to punctures. As the Ultremo DD tyre was highly recommended; I just had to go get it. I haven't had any punctures yet, but its only an early indication so far.

The downside is that it is a heavier tyre compared to my previous set, and due to that I'll lose about 5 kph or so from my top speed riding.

Too fragile for a commuting tyre

I was attracted to these tyres by the ceramic belt & lure of puncture resistance. Although they provide excellent traction in the wet, the rubber compound is too soft, shredding under normal city commuting conditions. Repeated punctures after only a couple of months use have switched me back onto the Durano Plus.

Nice ride and side walls seem sturdy

I got a pair of these to replace a pair of 25mm Conti gatorskins when one of them blew out the sidewall to make it have a big bulge and go out of round after only hitting a very moderate pothole. I have also had a pair of Conti 4000 lose all their sidewall threads like they were on chemo. I have had enough of Continentals for now because of their sidewall problems. These seemed with the way they described their construction to specifically address sidewall strength. That indeed is the case. I had no problems mounting them at all (folding bead). They are a nice looking tire, and ride quite well. They're not a race tire, obviously, but they rode just fine and did not make me feel like I was bogged down. They aren't for my primary ride, so I have few miles on them. For the riding done so far they have proved durable and quite nice for their style of tire. They also give lots of clearance vertically for their size, which is nice for a road/race bike geometry.

great tyre

I bought these tyres for their puncture protection and they have been fantastic (no punctures so far). I have found them easy to take on and off and they look fantastic as well. The only reason I have not given them five stars is because they are a little on the heavy side.

Nice feel for puncture resistant tire. Sidewalls seem extra strong.

I have had a number of problems with Continental sidewalls falling apart (threads coming off in great bundles on several tires with little to no use) and a recent sidewall rupture on a Continental Gatorskin 700x25 with a moderate pothole impact. My girlfriend went over it as well in some cheaper OEM tires with no problem at all. I wanted to find another rugged tire that won't have failing sidewalls.

Research led me to this tire (I have limited choices because of very little clearance to the frame, so I can't use most touring or puncture resistant tires because of size problems).

This tire has a nice look, very importantly fits with plenty of vertical space to the frame, and rides very smoothly and nicely for a non-race tire. I have not used it a lot yet, and I have not hit potholes and seriously bad roads, but the sidewalls from examining the tires are clearly much much more strong than the thin sidewalls of the Gatorskins.

I will not go back to Gatorskins. I am only wondering if the new Pro4 Endurance would be tough enough to a competitor to the DD tires.

On the whole, for what they promise, I am very very pleased.
