I have always just measured with a ruler to know the state of my chain. I needed to spend a few dollars more to get free shipping so I ordered this. It is simple to use and easier than my ruler. I like it.
Report this reviewGood buy. Indicates when chain is worn and needs replacing. Essential item in toolkit. Should have bought one years ago.
Report this reviewVery easy to use. The tool slips into the stretched chain or it doesn't. Worth the few dollars spent.
Report this reviewIt’s a go/no go checker rather than a measuring device. The theory is that the chain must be replaced at 0.5 for an 11 speed chain and .75 for all others if sprocket and chain ring wear is to be minimised. We’ll see!
Report this reviewI had a slightly noisy drivetrain on one of my bikes but I didn't think had a great many miles on this chain and cassette. A quick check with this simple tool confirmed that it is worn past 0.5% (but not yet past 0.75%) so I've happily ordered new parts. No more guessing!
Report this reviewAn excellent product that does exactly as stated, and is very easy to use. This should save many cassettes and chainrings from worn chains so is great value.
Report this reviewI always have my chain wear indicator tool handy and replace my chain as soon as it passes the 0.75 mark. I would definitely recommend purchasing this indicator over the more expensive version, as you really don't need to know the exact mark -- simply knowing whether or not the chain is >0.75 will suffice.
Report this reviewFor the price, it's worth it, else you'll ruin your cassette often! Very simple of use, it's useful, i'll wouldn't go back not using one

I bought this to monitor my chain wear and to keep the shop mechanics honest. Great little tool that is easy to use. Well made and at a little over $12 great value, even though it is very basic. I have 3 bikes and I use it regularly to check chain length. Good investment I think.
Cheers
You need one of these to ensure your not preternaturally wearing out your components.
Also PBK gave me the newer model which measures .5/.75 which is better because you buy a new chain at .5 then replace your chain at .75
