The Deda Elementi Trentacinque stem and its matching handlebar M35 are the greatest innovation of the last years in the field of road racing bicycle components. Thanks to a larger diameter it creates a much higher level of stiffness for the stem and handlebar, so defining a new benchmark for the market. This higher level of stiffness also means that there is a much less of a riders energy being lost through flexible components. Nice lightweight stem for bigger guys
The quality of this stem is top notch. Think of the Deda 35 bars first: Sitting on the tops while riding up a long climb is more comfortable; there is no small radius area to dig into the hands like on a more complex shaped (ovalised or aero) top bar in a smaller diameter (31.7). Down on the drops or resting on the hoods everything is as it should be, with no unwanted flex or lack of control in sensation. You can't enjoy these benefits without the Deda 35 stem, which maintains the stiffness of the bar tops without adding weight compared to most other stems (Deda for example make lighter stems, but the bars don't feel as solid and reassuring). It's already equipped with titanium bolts, has the Deda two piece clamp to shave some more weight (earlier versions had a one piece face plate), and keeps to the 'standard' 40mm fork column clamp height, rather than the 36mm of Deda's lighter offerings (Superzero RS and Superleggara). Out on the road this is a great stem (and bar combo), it's on all my sloping top tube (AKA 'climbing' bikes if there is such a thing - they are the bikes I use on my hilly rides) bikes, as I know they'll behave as I want them to. If I had anything negative to say, it's that the newer finish aluminium 35 bars aren't available in the UK. They are a great bar which this stem needs in many instances (I reserve carbon bars for my 'best' bikes).
