Bike Tyres

If there is one golden rule in cycling, it is that you need to pick the right bike tyres. Buying cheap tyres that are low quality with little grip is the classic false economy: not only will you have to put up with the hassle of repairing punctures on a regular basis, but your performance on the road will suffer too. This is why we recommend investing in some quality bike tyres and inner tubes. Here at ProBikeKit New Zealand we have many top brands from across the globe, including high performance tyres from Michelin and Vittoria.

Clincher tyres

Clincher tyres are often the most accessible and popular choice for cyclists due to the easy nature of the build. Clincher tyres are used for training and racing. Clinchers are easy to replace inner tubes if you are unlucky enough to puncture. Simply pop a new one in, remount, inflate and you are away again.

Tubular tyres

Tubular tyres are glued onto tubular compatible rims, either with specific tub glue or tub tape. The tyres can often allow for higher tyre pressures. They are faster rolling, lightweight and have less risk of the tyre coming off if punctured. This of course requires more upkeep and maintenance, and there is no quick way to repair a puncture with tubular tyres, Once punctured they will often need replacing. They do however, have their place in the world of modern cycling. Track cyclists, TT riders and Pro cyclists favour these due to their advantages listed above.

Inner Tubes

Inner tubes come in different sizes and materials. All standard inner tubes come in 700c size which is designed to fit a standard sized road wheel. If your bike has a smaller wheel such as 650c we also sell this size too. The width of your tube selection also depends on the width of your tyre. A 18-23mm means the tube can fit up to a 23mm wide tyre, if your tyre is 25mm or above then you would need to select 25-32mm. Some tubes cover different width’s but this is the general rule. Valve’s also come in different sizes. Most are standard. If you have deep section wheels then you will likely need longer valves, the depth of your rim will determine what size valve you will need. If you are looking to save weight then latex tubes are very light but not as puncture proof. Featuring big brands such as Continental, Michelin, Hutchinson, Schwalbe and Vittoria, you can find great bike tyres and inner tubes right here!
