High Expectations

I wanted these wheels specifically as I am spending a lot of time in the Dolomites and the Alps this year. So I wanted a light weight wheel, and did not want any carbon wheels, as I heard they don't brake as well as alloy wheels. So I went with the R-SYS SLR. I had read a lot of different reviews on the wheels and so I think I had high expectations that I would notice a big difference in performance from my regular training wheels, Fulcrum 3's. I did notice a difference but not a huge difference. Maybe my expectations were too high. These are very light and very stiff. Out of the saddle when climbing you can feel the stiffness. Rolling down hill they don't feel any different to my Fulcrum 3's maybe a little more sluggish. The braking noise that I had read about was not as bad as I was expecting. After the first 2 days the high squealing had gone. The new pad compound must be better. They only squeal under very hard braking and only on the front brakes. In my opinion the braking on my Fulcrum 3's with dual compound KOOLSTOP pads is better. The Mavic tyres that came with the wheels are good, but I prefer a 25ml tyre. The 23ml tyres Mavic feel a little skinny to me. These are a great looking wheel, the all black look fantastic. These are an expensive wheel, but I got them during a sale on PBK. So that was a huge savings!
