The Continental Gatorskin Clincher Road Tyre are great training tyres. They have very good puncture resistance. It's easy to fit, and seems to grip okay.

I get the best mileage and least punctures from these than any other brand of tire I have tried and over 23years I have tried nearly everything out there. Most tires on the rear last me about 2,000km (I'm 85kg) while out of the Gator's I have no problem reaching 4,000km plus. Any thing that puncture these will puncture any other tire and punctures are extremely rear. (The district I cycle in is known for glass and rubbish.) They aren't the best riding, but they are very good. They are not the fastest, but they again they are very good. For puncture resistance I have never found better. Every now and then I will try another brand on the market but I always return to Gators for training.
