Brilliant triathlon gear
Yup - that's right I use speedplay frogs for Triathlon. Why? Well the cycling phase is comparatively my strongest, but typically you start and finish running with your bike across grass and mud from the mount / dismount line. Once you done this a few times with your triathlon specific shoes with 'you beaut' Shimano, looks or even Speedplay zero pedal / cleats combos and have spent the first 100m trying to shed the mud and grass so that your cleat will actually click in... you get the idea. I use carbon soled mountain bike shoes modified to a single Velcro that closes all three straps at once. The lugged sole and recessed frog cleats and better than most cycling shoes for jogging with your bike, and Speedplay frogs shed the grass and mud instantly the cleat and pedal meet - straight in and away you go. I reckon this setup is worth about 15 - 20 seconds for your overall cycling sector.
